Application & Care
How to Apply Press On Nails
The 15-minute routine our factory technicians use on wear-test sets.
What you need
- Press-on nail set (sized ahead of time — see step 2)
- Nail glue OR adhesive tabs
- Alcohol wipe or 70% isopropyl alcohol on cotton
- Cuticle pusher (wooden or metal)
- 240-grit nail buffer
- Cuticle oil for after-care
Step 1 — Prep (5 minutes)
- Wash hands with soap. Dry completely.
- Push cuticles back gently with a wooden pusher.
- Lightly buff the entire nail plate — dull, not thin. One or two passes with a 240-grit buffer.
- Wipe every nail with alcohol. This step is 40% of your hold.
Step 2 — Size (3 minutes)
Lay out all ten press-ons and match one to each finger BEFORE opening the glue. The tip should cover your nail edge-to-edge without pressing into the skin at the sidewalls. If between two sizes, size down and file the sides.
Not sure which size to pick? See our press-on nails size chart.
Step 3 — Apply (5 minutes)
With glue:
- Rice-grain drop of glue on the middle of the natural nail.
- Optional: thin layer of glue on the underside of the press-on for maximum hold.
- Angle the press-on at 45° against the cuticle, then roll it down flat.
- Press firmly for 20 full seconds. No wiggling — bubbles kill the bond.
With tabs: peel, place on natural nail, press the tip down, hold 10 seconds.
Step 4 — Finish & cure (2 minutes + 1 hour wait)
- File the free edge to your preferred length and shape.
- Optional: brush a thin gel top coat over the seam at the cuticle.
- Wait 60 minutes before showering, dishes or workouts.
The 14-day wear checklist
- Wear gloves for dishes and cleaning
- Cuticle oil daily (yes, on top of press-ons — it doesn't weaken glue)
- If one lifts, refresh with a tiny drop of glue and press 20 seconds — don't leave a gap
FAQ
Do I need to file my natural nails before applying press-ons?
Yes — a light buff with a 240-grit file removes shine and gives the glue a mechanical bond. Skip and you'll lose a nail by day 3.
Should I use glue or adhesive tabs?
Glue for events, workouts and 2+ weeks of wear. Tabs for reusability, gentler removal, and 3–7 day wear.
How much glue do I need per nail?
A rice-grain sized drop covers the middle third of the natural nail. More glue means squeeze-out — not more hold.
Why do my press-on nails pop off in a day?
Almost always skipped prep: oily nail bed, missed alcohol wipe, or air bubbles from squeezing too hard. Fix prep first, glue brand second.
Can I shower right after applying press-on nails?
Wait at least 1 hour. Cyanoacrylate glue fully cures in 30–60 minutes; hot water before then weakens the bond.
